Single of the Week: The Neighbourhood – Sweater Weather
There isn’t a lot that we know about The Neighbourhood yet, though the band has made it clear that it’s by design. Here is what we do know though: 1) They are a 5-piece band from Los Angeles. 2) They use a black and white color scheme that they say is meant to reflect honesty. 3) Their music is brilliantly catchy, employing pop sensibilities that keep their sound fresh, while still hinting at influences. 4) Judging by how they are releasing information and the fact that they signed to Columbia with such little material out there, they have big plans.
The triggerman is their 21-year old front man Jesse Rutherford, who says their influences tend to come from the hip hop genre, even though they play as a 5-piece band (and we hear some similarity to early Maroon 5 and The Script). The music appears to hold up live from the footage we’ve seen and that’s always a really positive sign that an Indie Pop band has what it takes to go the distance. Strictly based on the limited material that’s out there, we can’t guarantee that they’ll be in it for the long haul, but what we can guarantee, is that you will shake your ass and bob your head to this week’s Goodbye Babylon ‘Single of the Week’ – ‘Sweater Weather’ from The Neighbourhood’s debut EP I’m Sorry. Dig it.
